LAS VEGAS (AP) — A group of 53 beauty queens from around the country are set to smile, strut and talk their way to the 2010 Miss America Pageant crown.
The young women from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico planned to cap a week of preliminary competition Saturday evening with the crowning of a winner in Las Vegas.
The winner gets a $50,000 scholarship and embarks on a yearlong run as Miss America.
The 89-year-old pageant to be televised live on cable network TLC is hosted by actor and “Extra” host Mario Lopez. He’ll be helped by Clinton Kelly of TLC’s “What Not to Wear.”
Scores based on a week of preliminary competitions will be added to Saturday swimsuit, talent, evening gown and interview competitions to determine a winner.
