An open house will be held Feb. 10 to share information about how a new Columbia River Crossing may affect Hayden Island.

The bistate CRC office and the Portland Working Group, an advisory group that includes island residents and business owners, will host an open house on Feb. 10. The open house will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter, 1405 Jantzen Beach Center.

The group will share the latest thinking on roadway and light rail designs; pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle access around the island; strategies for commercial and residential development around the new light rail station; and safety and security measures.

Anxiety on Hayden Island may be at an all-time high.

Residents have expressed concern about the effect of a recent package of cost-cutting refinements on the island. Eliminating an elevated span across the island will effectively result in a wider freeway footprint, which could mean bulldozing the island’s only grocery store and gas station.
