ALOHA, Ore. (AP) — The Washington County sheriff’s office says a deputy shot a woman who claimed she was armed and refused to show her hands.

The Oregonian reports that deputies responded to the Aloha Park Apartments in Aloha after a 50-year-old woman called 911 at 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Sgt. David Thompson says the woman claimed to have a gun and was going to kill another person.

Deputies arrived to find the woman in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Thompson said she had her hand in her jacket and continued to claim she had a gun, and when she was ordered to show her hands, she refused.

Thompson said a deputy shot her when she advanced toward the officers. It turned out she was unarmed.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard in officer-involved shootings. The woman was taken to a Portland hospital; her condition was not known.
