HENLEY, England (AP) — The University of Washington defeated Canada’s University of Victoria by two lengths at the Henley Royal Regatta.

Washington will face Harvard in the semifinals of the Temple Cup for student eights on the River Thames. Harvard beat England’s Durham University by 214 lengths on Friday.

Washington won despite warnings from the race umpire for erratic steering.

In the Ladies’ Plate for elite eights, Harvard pulled away from the National University of Ireland in Galway to win by 212 lengths.

The Potomac Boat Club of Washington, D.C., held off a strong challenge from local club Henley to win by three-quarters of a length and move into the semifinals.

It’s the third day of racing in the five-day event.
