Indians officially place Choo on disabled list

CLEVELAND (AP) — Shin-Soo Choo is on the Cleveland Indians’ disabled list with a sprained right thumb and the team has recalled Michael Brantley from Triple-A Columbus as an outfield replacement.

The Indians had announced after Saturday night’s 5-4 win over the Oakland Athletics that Brantley would be recalled to replace Choo on Sunday.

Choo was hurt trying to make a diving catch during the eighth inning of a 3-0 loss to Oakland on Friday night. The 27-year-old South Korean was hitting .286 with 13 home runs and 43 RBI in 78 games.

Brantley opened the season in Cleveland and was optioned to Columbus on April 19. He hit .315 in 59 games for the Clippers.
