ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay relief pitcher Rafael Soriano will replace New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera for the AL in the All-Star game.

Rivera pulled out of next week’s game in Anaheim because of nagging injuries. Major League Baseball added Soriano on Wednesday.

It’s the first All-Star selection for Soriano, who is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA and 23 saves in 24 opportunities this season.

The right-hander joins Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford and David Price in representing the Rays.
