A Vancouver man was injured in a 200-foot fall on the upper slopes of Mount Hood early Wednesday, but was rescued and taken to a Portland-area hospital by late afternoon.

Bryan Daniel Call, 25, reportedly suffered a fractured leg and an elbow injury, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The accident occurred just before 7 a.m., when dispatchers received a cell phone call from another climber.

Call was among a large crowd of climbers in the Hogsback area, close to 10,000 feet elevation on the main south approach to the Hood summit, said Detective Jim Strovink of the Sheriff’s Office.

He was accompanied by a climbing partner, Strovink said.

The sheriff’s office summoned the American Medical Response’s Reach and Treat (RAT) Team and Portland Mountain Rescue volunteers. The rescuers climbed to reach Call, treated him and transported him by litter to Timberline Lodge, arriving about 5 p.m., Strovink said.

Mount Hood’s summit is 11,239 feet.

Call’s condition was not available Wednesday night.
