PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A principal from McMinnville has been named one of six finalists in a national principal of the year contest.

Catherine Carnahan of Duniway Middle School receives a $1,500 grant for making the finals and will get an additional $3,500 grant if she is named principal of the year in September.

The contest is sponsored by MetLife and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Carnahan was named Oregon’s principal of the year in early 2010. From the pool of state winners, a panel of judge selected three middle school and three high school finalists.
