Rail extension will ease train congestion at port
Friday, July 9, 2010
Vancouver, WA The Port of Vancouver has completed its Terminal 5 train improvements, adding 35,000 feet of rail capacity. The extension, part of the larger west Vancouver freight access project, is a new track built in a loop at the port’s recently developed Terminal 5. It will provide rail service for wind energy components and other cargo.
The loop track allows the port to handle trains, which can be up to 7,500 feet long, within its internal rail complex. It was finished ahead of schedule and on budget, at a cost of about $14.6 million.
To date, the port has invested roughly $66 million in Terminal 5 train improvements.
