YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A man who thought he was diving into deep water at Rimrock Lake struck his head on a rock and was critically injured.

The Yakima County sheriff’s office says the water at the Peninsula Campground was only 4 or 5 feet deep where the man dived Thursday evening off a 10-foot bank.

Witnesses began first aid. The 28-year-old Selah man was first airlifted to a hospital in Yakima and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
