MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Authorities have reburied the body of a toddler found 47 years ago in a Southern Oregon reservoir. The case of the “Unknown Baby Boy,” as his black granite marker calls him, has gone cold again.
Tests show he likely had Down syndrome and was 2 when he died.
In 1963, a fisherman pulled a weighted bundle of blankets and wire from a reservoir near Ashland. Detectives were unable to identify him or find how he died.
In 2008, investigators reopened the case. They did DNA testing and facial reconstruction and followed leads. But they, too, were unsuccessful. Their hope now is that having the DNA in a national database will someday provide a lead.
And, on Thursday, the remains were laid to rest yet again at a Medford graveyard.
