LAS VEGAS (AP) — Players still competing in the World Series of Poker main event are inching closer and closer to a potential payday with each elimination.

Officials expect the no-limit Texas Hold ’em tournament to reach the money Tuesday night, with the top 747 players getting some piece of a $68.8 million pool.

Top prize is $8.94 million but 747th place gets more than $19,000. Entry into the tournament cost $10,000.

Just 1,204 players from the original field of 7,319 began a fourth session. After 2 hours, 178 were eliminated.

Tournament director Jack Effel says he expects bustouts to slow as players track how many opponents they have left.

Once the bubble bursts, short-stacked players often shove in their chips, happy to have earned something.
