The owner of a vacant rental property accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake pedal Monday while working in the home’s yard and backed his pickup truck off a ridge. The truck flipped onto its roof and slammed into a neighboring home’s fence before coming to a stop.

The 62-year-old man was transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center for observation, said Dawn Johnson, a Clark County Fire District 6 spokeswoman. His injuries were believed to be minor.

Minutes before the incident, a young child was playing near the area where the truck came to rest.

“The child had gone back inside,” Johnson said.

The man was working on his property at 2107 N.W. 95th St. when a failure of footwork sent his truck into the fence at 9413 N.W. 22nd Court. A damage estimate for the fence was not available.
