OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Department of Transportation says the names Salish (Saylish) and Kennewick have been chosen for two new 64-car ferries. In other news Tuesday, the Keystone terminal’s name is being changed to Coupeville.

The Kitsap Sun reports the new ferry Salish is expected to sail the Port Townsend-Coupeville route within a year, joining sister ship Chetzemoka during the busy summer season.

The Salish is being built at Todd Shipyards in Seattle and is expected to be delivered in spring 2011.

The Kennewick will be assigned to the Point Defiance-Tahlequah route and will arrive in winter 2012.

The Chetzemoka is currently undergoing final outfitting and dock trials at Everett Shipyard and is scheduled to go into service on Aug. 30.

Names that didn’t make the cut were Cowlitz, Tokitae and Samish.
