The city of Ridgefield announced it will hold its sixth annual National Night Out party next month.

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 in downtown’s Davis Park on Main Avenue.

The free event gives residents a chance to meet the city council and public safety personnel from the police and fire departments. The open forum aims to increase understanding of the services provided by the city and encourage interaction between neighbors, according to a city news release.

The event will include information regarding community service organizations and personal and property safety, a bike rodeo and a dunk tank. The Ridgefield Farmers Market will also be open.

Nonperishable food and donations are being accepted to benefit Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

The National Night Out program began in 1984 and is held the first Tuesday each August. Communities across the country and in U.S. territories, military bases around the world and Canadian cities host events.
