STUTTGART, Germany (AP) — Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia was ousted from the Mercedes Cup in the second round by Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain 7-6 (7), 2-6, 6-1 on Thursday.

Fourth-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero finished off Horacio Zeballos of Argentina 6-7 (1), 7-6 (3), 6-2 in a match that was postponed because of darkness at the start of the second-set tiebreaker. Ferrero will take on Gilles Simon of France in the final eight.

Third-seeded Gael Monfils denied Spanish qualifier Pablo Andujar his first ATP quarterfinals with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win, and will face Florian Mayer of Germany, who beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-1.

Marco Chiudinelli stopped Bjorn Phau 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach his first quarterfinals of the season.
