Try This: Catch base ball fever

Two vintage “base ball” teams take a step back in time when they stage an 1860s Vintage Base Ball Game today.

The teams will re-enact games played at Fort Vancouver 140 years ago. The game, then written as two words, will be played with 1860s rules. Those rules included the pitcher throwing underhand, the batter telling the pitcher where to throw, and the fielders playing without gloves.

When: 6 tonight.

Where: Parade ground, near the intersection of Evergreen Boulevard and Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.

The game is one of several weekend entertainment options in Clark County and Portland. Others include a concert from local group 5 Guys Named Moe and the Battle Ground Harvest Days celebration.

1. Local acts perform at port

A pair of local groups will launch the Riverside Concert Series at the Port of Camas-Washougal.

Vancouver dance band 5 Guys Named Moe will perform a variety of hits spanning the past 60 years. The Washougal High School Jazz Band will perform at the show, as well.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and low-backed chairs. Food will be available for sale, and a beer garden will be on site.

When: Today; the Washougal High School Jazz Band will perform from 2-4 p.m., and 5 Guys Named Moe will take the stage at 4 p.m.

2. Battle Ground celebrates with weekend fair

Battle Ground Harvest Days brings together a variety of activities this weekend that celebrate the city. Offerings at this summer celebration include carnival rides, a beer and wine garden, music, games and food.

Events: Vendor booths, noon to 8 p.m. today; booths open at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Carnival, noon to 10 p.m. today.

Fred Meyer Grand Parade, 10 a.m. today. The parade begins at Northwest Fifth Avenue and East Main Street, Battle Ground.

Harvest Days Show ’n’ Shine, noon to 4 p.m. today.

Beer and wine garden, 5-11 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

When: Today and Sunday.

Where: Battle Ground Village, 1207 S.E. Rasmussen Blvd., Battle Ground. The car show will be at the Gardner Center, state Highway 503 and Northeast 199th Street, Battle Ground.

3. Fair traces rural roots

The Clark County Rural Heritage Fair showcases Clark County’s rural side with a variety of activities: blacksmith demonstrations, steam engines, vendors, a swap meet, crafts, vintage tractors, children’s games, collectibles and food for sale.

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday.

4. DiCaprio stars in ‘Inception’

The latest film from director Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight,” “The Prestige”) arrives in theaters this weekend.

“Inception” follows a man (Leonardo DiCaprio) who is able to steal secrets from people in their dreams. The ability turns him into a fugitive and lands him in a scandalous work of corporate espionage.
