CHICAGO (AP) — Carlos Zambrano could rejoin the Chicago Cubs by the end of the month.

Manager Lou Piniella says the right-hander will likely pitch a simulated game Monday at the team’s training complex in Mesa, Ariz., and his next stop would be Triple-A Iowa. Piniella says Zambrano could rejoin the Cubs during their six-game road trip that starts July 26.

Zambrano reported to Arizona last week after completing anger management sessions following his dugout confrontation with Derrek Lee in a game against the White Sox on June 25. The team suspended him without pay for three games, then placed him on the restricted list on June 29.

He is expected to pitch out of the bullpen when he returns. Zambrano is 3-6 with a 5.66 ERA in 22 games this season.
