FARNBOROUGH, England (AP) — Boeing opened the Farnborough Airshow announcing orders for 70 planes worth more than $12 billion at list prices.

Dubai-based Emirates ordered 30 777s worth $9.1 billion. Some of those orders had been previously announced to an unidentified customer, so the value of the new orders is $3.6 billion.

And GE Capital Aviation Services ordered 40 Boeing 737s worth $3 billion. So that’s nearly $7 billion in new orders.

Boeing rival Airbus had orders on the first day of the air show for 31 planes worth $6.1 billion.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President Jim Albaugh says the jetliner market is coming back faster than expected. He told KOMO Radio in Seattle Boeing will have more orders to announce this week.
