STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State’s marquee position on defense will have a new look this fall.

When training camp for the Nittany Lions begins in about three weeks, coach Joe Paterno will sort through potential replacements for last year’s standout linebacking trio of Sean Lee, Navorro Bowman and Josh Hull. Each player was selected in the NFL draft.

One candidate could be a sophomore who hasn’t played since a right knee injury during camp last year. Paterno held Michael Mauti in such high regard that he was in the running to replace Hull until the injury.

Other backups last year, including Bani Gbadyu (Bah-JUE) and Nathan Stupar, could also be in line to start.

Otherwise, Penn State returns two starters on the defensive line and three from the secondary.
