PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A federal court jury in Portland has convicted a long-haul trucker of aggravated sexual abuse for assaults on an 8-year-old girl during a coast-to-coast trip.

Jurors were told the girl’s mother asked 36-year-old Alexander Lukashov Jr. of Portland to take the child and her little brother on his cross-country haul so that he could drop the boy with relatives in Montana. Prosecutors say the man repeatedly molested the girl after dropping the boy off.

Testimony showed the man raped and sodomized the child, telling her adults did such things to children all the time. After one assault, he gave her a teddy bear. The now-9-year-old girl testified for two hours.

After Tuesday’s verdict, Judge Anna Brown set sentencing for Oct. 13. The man faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years, with the possibility of a life sentence.
