NEW YORK (AP) — Two-time U.S. Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein will return for his second New York City Marathon this fall.
New York Road Runners announced Tuesday that Ritzenhein is optimistic he’ll be fully healed after being sidelined for much of the year with a stress fracture in his right foot.
He joins a field for the Nov. 7 race that includes defending champion Meb Keflezighi (keh-FLEZ’-gee) and marathon world-record holder Haile (HAY-lee) Gebrselassie (Geb-ra-sell-AH-see) of Ethiopia, who will be making his debut in the race.
Ritzenhein, of Portland, Ore., ran his first NYC Marathon in 2006. He is coached by three-time New York City Marathon winner Alberto Salazar.
