A Camas man was recovering at Southwest Washington Medical Center on Tuesday evening, several hours after he crashed into a parked pickup while riding a bicycle on state Highway 14 eastbound near Ellsworth Road.

Thomas A. Syfrett, 52, was listed in satisfactory condition, a nursing supervisor said.

About 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Syfrett crashed into the rear of a 1996 Chevrolet pickup that was disabled and parked on the eastbound shoulder of the highway, awaiting a tow truck, according to a bulletin from the Washington State Patrol.

Syfrett didn’t see the truck and the cause of the collision was inattention, the bulletin said. He wore a helmet and suffered cuts and abrasions to his face. No citation was immediately issued but the crash was under investigation.

The crash totaled the Schwinn bicycle and caused $750 damage to the truck, the bulletin said.
