Youth ball: Columbia LL softball reaches state final

The Columbia Little League junior softball all-star team reached the state championship game with a 7-0 win Tuesday over Stilly Valley at David Douglas Park.

Colleen Driscoll was 3 for 4, and Sammy Savage was 2 for 4 for the winners. Ashley Van Horn went 2 for 2 for Columbia.

Columbia will face either Stilly Valley or Northeast Seattle in Thursday’s title game. Those teams play at 6 p.m. today for a spot in the final.

The championship is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday with a second game, if necessary, at 8 p.m.

The state champion earns a berth to the regional tournament at Tucson, Ariz., beginning Aug. 5.

Senior (15-16) state — The District 6 representative was eliminated by Fife-Milton-Edgewater on Monday, 15-7 in the tournament at Auburn. No details were reported.

Little League baseball

Junior (13-14) state — Fort Vancouver suffered its first loss in the tournament at Medical Lake, and missed a place in the semifinal by falling to Central Whidbey 9-5. Details were not reported.

Fort Vancouver will play a loser-out game at 6 p.m. today. It will have to win three games to reach the championship on Saturday.

9-10 state — Central Vancouver defeated PacWest 4-3 in a loser-out game Tuesday at Shoreline to stay alive in the tournament. Details were not reported.

On Monday, Central Vancouver defeated East Valley 13-7 in a loser-out game as Koben Jamison hit a three-run home run, and Thomas Snyder went 2 for 4 with four RBI. Kaleb Callaham was 3 for 3 with two doubles.

Central Vancouver plays Woodinville at 6 p.m. today in a loser-out game.

Senior (15-16) state — Fort Vancouver was eliminated from the tournament in Redmond with an 11-5 loss to Richmond. Details were not reported.

Babe Ruth baseball

Pacific Northwest Regional — Pacific Power Products of Ridgefield dropped its opening game of the tournament at Clackamas Community College, losing to Columbia Basin 9-1.

Pacific Power out-hit Columbia Basin 7-5 in the pool-play game, but could only push across a run in the fourth inning. Alex Sheridan was credited with the RBI. Chris Bones and Dylan Young each had two hits.

Pacific Power plays the Northern Oregon champion at 3 p.m. today. Pool play continues through Saturday.
