Sheriff’s deputies arrested two boys, 14 and 15, late Tuesday night, several hours after they allegedly robbed another boy of his iPod in Hazel Dell, and one assaulted him, police said.

The robbery occurred near Northeast 88th Street and Highway 99, according to a bulletin from Sgt. Scott Schanaker with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

After the assault, the boy went into the nearby Riverview Community Bank and called 911 about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim, 14, told deputies he’d been riding his bicycle and listening to his iPod when he saw the suspects and thought he recognized one from school. He stopped to talk with them and realized he didn’t know either of them. They demanded the iPod and threatened to harm him, the bulletin said.

When the boy handed over his iPod, one suspect punched him in the side. The robbers then rode off on their bikes, the bulletin said.

The boy suffered mild pain but had no visible injuries and declined medical care.

Using the boy’s descriptions of the assailants, deputies learned their names and found them, the bulletin said. The suspects admitted threatening the boy and taking his iPod, but they didn’t admit to assaulting him, Schanaker said.

The suspects directed deputies to an area where they said they discarded the iPod, but deputies didn’t find it, the bulletin said.

The two boys, residents of Clark County, were taken to the juvenile detention center on suspicion of first-degree robbery. Deputies didn’t release their names because they are younger than 18.
