OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Two members of Washington state’s congressional delegation voted against the war funding bill that has passed the House.

Democratic Reps. Jim McDermott of Seattle and Jay Inslee of Bainbridge Island were among the 102 Democrats and 12 Republicans who opposed the $33 billion spending boost for the additional 30,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. The final vote Tuesday was 308-114.

In his floor speech before the vote, Inslee said it was wrong to pay to train police officers in Kabul while cities like Lynnwood, Wash., faced cuts in their police forces.

McDermott issued a statement saying he “cannot in good conscience vote to send soldier after soldier into a battle I do not believe we can ever win.”

The rest of the state delegation voted in support of the bill.
