The number of Clark County homes in foreclosure fell by 28.9 percent in the first six months of the year, compared to the first half of 2009, according to a report being released today.

The county ranked third-highest among Washington’s 39 counties for its rate of foreclosure in the January-to-June period, with one of every 89 households in some stage of foreclosure, according to California-based RealtyTrac.

Clark County’s performance was slightly better than No. 1-ranked Pierce County, which had one in 81 homes in foreclosure. During the six-month period, there were 1,824 housing units in foreclosure in Clark County, compared with 2,565 foreclosures in the first six months of 2009.

Foreclosure rates rose in 154 of 206 metro areas across the country between January and June, Realty-Trac said.
