Crossing sponsors set meeting on refinements

Project sponsors will have a public meeting Thursday regarding a series of possible refinements to the Columbia River Crossing.

Members of the Project Sponsors Council are soliciting public testimony on several possible refinements to the project, including a slight narrowing of the bridge itself and a new interchange for Hayden Island.

The meeting will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter, 1405 Jantzen Beach Center in Portland. A presentation will be held at 6 p.m., followed by public testimony.

The latest idea would add an arterial street to a planned light-rail bridge onto Hayden Island from the south, somewhat reducing the bridge’s hulking footprint on the island.

No refinements are being contemplated for the project’s six-block-wide landing zone in Vancouver. The proposed bridge will enter the city at roughly the height of an eight-story building.
