Going to Portland tonight? Watch for delays

Take your pillow to Portland tonight. Road work will force detours and may cause delays in several places, warns the Oregon Department of Transportation.

First of all, southbound lane closures will be in effect on the Interstate 205 bridge from Vancouver to Portland beginning at 9 p.m. and lasting until 8 a.m. Saturday. They’re still working on replacing those worn-out bridge joints.

Once you get across the river, watch for these projects:

Interstate 205 southbound ramp to Interstate 84 will be closed for striping from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Traffic will be detoured onto the Glisan Street exit. Blame pavement striping for the inconvenience. (On the bright side, the Banfield freeway has some great new asphalt.)

Interstate 5 northbound at the Marquam Bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. Motorists will detour via Interstate 405. Workers are installing a new barricade so the speeders who take that curved bridge too fast don’t end up in the river.
