Speakers will oppose resolution on Ariz. law

— A couple dozen opponents to Washougal’s recent resolution supporting the Arizona immigration law plan to attend an upcoming city council meeting and voice their opinions.

About 20 to 30 Vancouver and Washougal residents are expected to attend the council meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 1701 C St.

Vancouver resident Rick Covington, who was an organizer of this year’s May Day rally in downtown Vancouver, said he and the others want to tell the council their concerns about the resolution.

He hopes, ultimately, that the council will consider repealing the resolution.

The Washougal City Council approved the resolution 5-2 at its meeting July 6. The resolution supported the Arizona immigration law and encouraged state representatives in the 15th and 18th legislative districts, who represent the city of Washougal, to sponsor and enact similar legislation in Washington.
