Camas police late tonight said detectives have identified a teenage boy who was found drowned in Lacamas Creek on Monday, a half-mile upstream from Northeast Third Avenue.
The boy’s family came forward and said he’s been missing the past few days; he’s been positively identified, Sgt. Scot Boyles said.
Police were withholding the boy’s name late Tuesday because not all family members had been notified.
Detectives plan to release the boy’s name later today. Police said earlier that they saw no physical trauma or other signs of foul play.
The effort to retrieve the body began about noon Monday when hikers in Lacamas Park reported seeing a body in the creek south of Round Lake. Georgia-Pacific mill officials were contacted and they reduced the flow from the Round Lake dam into the creek.
A four-member firefighter technical rescue team recovered the body about 6:15 p.m. in a steep area with large rocks and debris, Vancouver Fire Capt. Kevin Murray said.
