EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The 2014 Super Bowl will be played in New Jersey — but one might not know it based on the media coverage of the announcement.

From tabloid headlines last week that proclaimed “Super Bowl XLVIII will be outdoors — in New York!” to television reports that focused on fan reaction from Times Square, some New Jersey residents say they’ve been snubbed.

Although the bid was to hold the Super Bowl in the New York/New Jersey area, the game will be at the new Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford.

Garden State football fans say they’re tired of New York taking all the credit for New Jersey’s accomplishments.

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg sent the NFL brass a letter reminding them to mention New Jersey, and not just New York, when hyping the game.
