SILVER LAKE, Wash. (AP) — Cowlitz County sheriff’s officers are investigating a southwest Washington fight that involved about nine men and ending with serious injuries to two of them.

Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig says Wednesday’s fight apparently began as an attempt by three men to collect a debt at a house along the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway. Those men say they were attacked by other men armed with a machete, a hatchet and knives. A 43-year-old Kelso man suffered a large arm cut while a Castle Rock man received a large head wound and injuries to his chest and shoulder. Rosenzweig says they were taken to a hospital for treatment. While the injuries are serious, he says both are expected to survive.

Investigators interviewing residents of the house say the debt collectors arrived armed with pipes, demanded money and a fight broke out.
