Teen missing after jump into swollen Ore. creek

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A Portland Fire Bureau spokesman says a 15-year-old boy is missing after he jumped into rain-swollen Johnson Creek on Wednesday night in an effort to swim across.

Lt. Allen Oswalt says fire crews turned their rescue effort into a body recovery mission after more than an hour passed since the boy was last seen.

The boy was not immediately identified.

Oswalt says the boy and two friends were by a concrete spillway when he told the friends he was going to swim the creek, running full and fast after record May rainfall.
