CAMANO ISLAND, Wash. (AP) — News that an Everett bounty hunter is joining the search for elusive teen bandit Colton Harris-Moore has drawn mixed reaction on Camano Island, where Harris-Moore grew up.

Bounty hunter Mike Rocha addressed a crowd of about 200 people at a school gymnasium Tuesday night. He said he hopes to persuade the 19-year-old to surrender voluntarily, but otherwise, “we need to find him.”

Some residents were supportive of Rocha’s efforts, which aren’t condoned by the Island County Sheriff’s Office. But others said Rocha’s a vigilante, and efforts to apprehend Harris-Moore should be left to law enforcement.

Harris-Moore has been on the run since he escaped from a Renton group home in April 2008. Since then, he’s suspected of breaking into homes and business in five Washington counties, British Columbia and Idaho. Police also believe he’s taken four planes, luxury cars and power boats.
