Trial for a Vancouver man accused of shooting and seriously wounding a grocery clerk in December has been postponed until June 14.

Trial for Jose “Nica” Gasteazoro-Paniagua was scheduled to begin Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court Judge Barbara Johnson’s courtroom. But the prosecution requested more time because of pending DNA testing.

Johnson agreed to the request and scheduled the trial for June 14.

Gasteazoro-Paniagua was arrested following the shooting at the Bi-Lo Market, 8725 N.E. Highway 99.

According an affidavit filed with the court, Gasteazoro-Paniagua, then 32, tracked down his former friend Jose Guadalupe Muro, 29, at his job on the evening of Dec. 30. Muro was shelving beer in the back of the convenience store when the defendant approached him and allegedly shot Muro five times, including once in the head. Muro survived.

Investigators identified the motive as a friendship rift over a woman dating both Gasteazoro-Paniagua and the victim’s younger brother.
