WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Fred Couples couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Champions Tour career, right up until last week.

Couples won three of his first six events on the senior circuit and currently leads the money list. But he missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole of regulation at last week’s Senior PGA Championship, and Tom Lehman beat Couples and David Frost in a playoff.

Couples will be looking to bounce back this weekend at the Principal Charity Classic in West Des Moines. It’s his first trip to Iowa since the PGA Tour’s Quad Cities Open in 1981.

Defending champion Mark McNulty isn’t in the field after knee replacement surgery last month. Neither is Lehman, who is skipping Iowa for the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
