The city of Battle Ground was awarded a Community Development Block Grant to help fund the city’s pedestrian improvement project on Southeast First Street.

The $150,400 grant will pay for about 80 percent of the project, which has a price tag of $188,000. The remaining cost of the project will be paid for with $28,396 from the city’s street fund and $9,204 of in-kind city engineering and project management services.

The roadway lacks sidewalks and does not completely meet urban standards. The project will include installation of lighting, curbs, gutters, a 5-foot sidewalk and landscaping on the south side of the street between South Parkway Avenue and Southeast Second Avenue. The project also includes stormwater and road improvements.

Construction is expected to begin in August and will take about two months to complete.

For additional information, call City Hall at 342-5004 or visit the city’s website at http://cityofbg.org.
