RUSTENBURG, South Africa (AP) — England coach Fabio Capello says captain Rio Ferdinand has injured his left knee in training and has gone to a hospital for a scan.

The injury was sustained in Friday’s training.

Ferdinand has a problem with his lower back that flares up repeatedly and caused him to miss many of Manchester United’s games last season.

England opens its World Cup schedule on June 12 against the United States.
