CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- John Hicks had four hits and drove in four runs and Virginia beat Virginia Commonwealth 15-4 in the opening game of the Charlottesville Regional Friday.
Tyler Cannon added three hits and three RBI and Dan Grovatt also drove in three as the Cavaliers (48-11) pounded Rams ace Seth Cutler-Voltz and four relievers for 16 hits.
The Rams (34-25-1), in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007, did all their scoring in two innings when they loaded the bases with no one out, but the Cavaliers stopped both rallies with two of their three double plays.
