HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A fire department spokesman in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro says a 15-year-old driver crashed through a fence and into a gas line on the side of a home Friday evening, prompting the temporary evacuation of nearby homes.

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue spokesman Storm Smith says there was no fire. NW Natural workers arrived to shut off the leaking gas.

Smith says the teen driver was taken to a hospital after he passed out. He had a learner’s permit. The spokesman says a woman and a 1-year-old child were also in the car. Medics treated the baby.

Smith says the driver reportedly hit the gas instead of the brake while traveling around a corner, then overcorrected, lost control of the vehicle and hit the gas line.
