UO takes Knight offer for new athletic building

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- The state Board of Higher Education has approved a multimillion-dollar donation by Nike co-founder Phil Knight to add another building to the University of Oregon athletic department.

Knight is offering to build an addition of about 100,000 square feet to the existing Casanova and Moshofsky centers just west of Autzen Stadium, primarily to create more room for the football program.

The project also includes a new field, stands and scoreboard for the soccer and lacrosse programs because construction will encroach on Pape Field, where the teams play now.

Construction is expected to get under way in late summer or early fall and be complete by February 2013.
