WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A Wenatchee woman who escaped a house fire by climbing out her bedroom window credits her dog for waking her up in the middle of the night.

Celia Hall-Thur told the Wenatchee World she woke up early Saturday morning when she heard Lucky, her Chihuahua-Cocker Spaniel mix dog, whine and bark.

Wenatchee Batallion Chief Glen Widener says Hall-Thur was lucky because the single-story house didn’t have any smoke detectors.

He says investigators believe a heating pad on a living room couch caused the fire.

Hall-Thur suffered smoke inhalation and was in satisfactory condition Saturday morning at Central Washington Hospital.
