3rd District candidates forum set for July 8

Leadership Clark County will host the community’s first forum for all 3rd Congressional District candidates Thursday, July 8, at Clark College’s Gaiser Hall.

The 6 p.m. event will be free to the public.

Candidates will be asked nonpartisan questions developed by Leadership Clark County and the Clark College Political Science Department. Candidates will not receive the questions in advance, said Leadership Clark County board member Temple Lentz, co-chair of the event.

“Election season is heating up,” she said. “U.S. Rep. Brian Baird’s retirement leaves a rare undefended federal seat. This may be Clark County’s best — if not only — opportunity to hear all of the candidates at a single event before the (Aug. 17) primary.”

The timing of the event will give people a chance to see and evaluate candidates side by side about three weeks before primary election ballots are mailed.

Republicans David Castillo, Jaime Herrera, David Hedrick and Chris Boyd and Democrats Denny Heck and Cheryl Crist are campaigning for the 3rd District seat. As of Friday, all but Hedrick had confirmed their attendance, Lentz said.

Leadership Clark County offers leadership training to Clark County residents. Co-sponsors of the event are Clark College and the Woodland Review.
