Ore. woman hospitalized after crash gives birth

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The father of a 19-year-old Gresham, Ore., woman who remains hospitalized after a mid-April car crash says his daughter has given birth to a baby girl.

Bill Wilson says Cayla Wilson's newborn weighed just over 2 pounds when she was born by emergency cesarean section May 22 but now weighs nearly 3 pounds. The baby remains in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Cayla Wilson has had several surgeries to reduce swelling in her brain, remove a blood clot near her hip and reconstruct her jaw. She remains sedated and hospitalized with her jaw wired shut.

The driver of the other car, 53-year-old Jack Dean Whiteaker, has pleaded not guilty to assault, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
