ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Seattle Mariners slumping second baseman Chone Figgins has been dropped to the bottom of the batting order.

Figgins, who was hitting .220 after making 56 starts in the No. 2 spot, was one of the Mariners’ big offseason acquisitions.

Manager Don Wakamatsu dropped Figgins into the No. 9 spot for the opener of a four-game series at Texas on Monday night. Designated hitter Milton Bradley, who was hitting .211, moved into the No. 2 spot after batting Nos. 4-6 his previous 36 starts.

The last time Figgins was in the starting lineup batting ninth was June 5, 2007, for the Los Angeles Angels.

Figgins came to Seattle from the Angels as a free agent when he signed a $36 million, four-year contract.
