BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — A flood emergency has been declared on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.

The declaration by forest supervisor Steve Ellis allows the Wallowa-Whitman to seek federal money for repairs.

Heavy rain and melting snow triggered severe flooding in Eastern Oregon. Ellis says many roads, bridges, trails and recreation sites on the 2.4-million-acre forest have been damaged the past several days.

Workers continue to clear rocks and other debris from roads.

The Anthony Lakes Highway has reopened to traffic, but the popular Wallowa Mountain Loop Road between Halfway and Joseph remains closed due to erosion from North Pine Creek.
