ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have signed veteran wide receiver Mike Furrey.

Furrey has played with St. Louis, Detroit and Cleveland over seven NFL seasons. He caught 23 passes for 170 yards last year with the Browns.

Furrey has also been used as a punt returner and kick returner and can play defense. He started 11 games at safety for St. Louis in 2005 and played the position again late last season with Cleveland.

Also on Wednesday, the Redskins released linebacker Alvin Bowen, defensive lineman Antoine Holmes, cornerback Marcus McCauley and tight end Sean Ryan.
