SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane County Commissioners chose a site near Medical Lake as the preferred location for a new jail.
The new jail would hold 256 inmates and help replace capacity after the Geiger Corrections facility closes in 2013.
A bond issue to pay for a new jail goes to voters in April.
At Tuesday’s meeting the commission also decided that a new community corrections facility should be built next to the jail in downtown Spokane. It would house work release and drug rehabilitation programs.
