SEATTLE (AP) — A state audit of the Department of Social and Health Services found problems with updating employee payroll and insurance accounts and the access of former employees to records.

The audit released this month found some employees were overpaid, and $350,000 went to medical insurance premiums for former employees.

The Seattle Times reports the audit also found the agency had no formal process for deactivating account access for former employees and at least 100 still had access to computer systems.

In its response, the agency said it will strengthen internal controls.

DSHS is the state’s largest agency, using nearly one-third of the budget to provide services to needy and vulnerable citizens.
